College Sport

All of our students have the opportunity to participate in a huge range of sports activities that are good for the mind, body and soul.  From team sports to individual opportunities, we encourage everyone to participate and challenge themselves to find what's just right for them.

Participation in school sports supports the healthy growth of heart, lungs, muscles and bones.  It also improves agility, co-ordination and balance.  Exercise also helps reduce stress levels, anxiety and behavioural problems and can have a positive impact on emotional well-being which can help improve a student's school performance.

Playing sports with classmates can motivate and help students with their confidence as they can engage in friendly competition and form new friendship groups.  We employ a dedicated sports co-ordinator to plan, organise and inform our students about sporting opportunities available in school or in the community.

We uniquely sit in two sporting regions, Bay of Plenty and Thames Valley.  This enables us to take part in a wide range of events. Students can play hockey, rugby, football, netball, basketball, volleyball and cricket in weekly competitions. There are many other sports that students participate in, including squash, rock climbing, motorcross, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, triathlons, tennis and the Year 7 & 8 may also be able to compete in the National AIMS Games which are held in Tauranga in September each year.

Students need to check daily notices so that they are informed of what is happening.  The daily notices are read out in class each morning at form time and are also available on the door of the student office.  These notices list important meetings that are being held at intervals and lunchtimes.  Students need to listen and attend any meetings that are called so that they receive all the information, even if they are not sure of how keen they are from the beginning.  There are many have-a-go opportunities as well as competitive competitions and representation.  Go along, get the information and then make a decision.  Please ensure any fees due are paid.

There are many opportunities for students and we encourage them to get involved.  Please like our Facebook page to keep informed.

Our school teams consistently produce competitive results and have many national and regional representatives in our ranks.  We welcome any help with coaching or managing from with our community.

For more information about sports opportunities available to our students please contact our Sports Co-ordinator, Juliet Dunlop-Fraser.
